RFIC maker RF Micro Devices Inc of Greensboro, NC, USA says it is shipping its RF3158 high-power, dual-mode EDGE amplifier module to LG Electronics. Leveraging its highly-integrated linear transmit architecture, the RF3158 integrates into multiple reference design platforms for EDGE-enabled mobile devices.
Handset makers are designing in RFMD's EDGE PA and transmit modules in order to reduce size and cost of implementation while maximizing power and performance of feature-rich mobile devices, says claims Konrad Alvarino, General Manager, Components Business Unit at RFMD. “Shipment of the RF3158 to LGE is further evidence of RFMD's continued momentum in the high-growth EDGE market,” he claims.
The RF3158 is designed to support EDGE radios that use a linear or small-signal polar modulation transmit architecture. Designed to be the final amplification stage in a dual-mode GSM/GPRS/EDGE mobile transmit lineup, its gain and linearity line-ups enable handset makers to optimize the transmit chain to meet varying implementations of linearity, efficiency and output power, says RFMD. Fully quad-band capable, the module operates in the 824-915MHz and 1710-1910MHz bands.
RFMD anticipates continued sales growth in the EDGE market, which it forecasts will grow approximately 100% in 2006.
