Osram Opto Semiconductors of Regensburg, Germany has added a high-brightness, general-purpose white LED to its Golden Dragon ARGUS family of products.
Combining proprietary ThinGaN (indium gallium nitride) technology with its patented ARGUS lens, Osram's new product is designed for display and sign backlighting, general lighting applications, indoor and outdoor architectural lighting, and decorative lighting. Each Golden Dragon ARGUS white package contains one HB-LED with a thin phosphor coating over the emission area, applied at the wafer level. The company says that the new product (in a 40 mm package) offers over 90% of the light available within a 160º cone, and delivers more than 85% coverage of the entire surface in backlighting applications.
Osram’s Golden Dragon ARGUS white meets 70% of NTSC requirements for LCD backlighting applications, has an operating temperature range of -40ºC to +85ºC, has a lifetime of >50,000 hours depending on conditions, and is RoHS-compliant.
