Microanalytical surface analysis and materials characterization services provider Evans Analytical Group LLC (EAG) of Sunnyvale, CA, USA ended 2006 with the acquisition of Cascade Scientific Ltd, Cascade Scientific GmbH (collectively “Cascade Scientific”); Nano Science Corporation; Shiva Technologies Inc and Shiva Technologies Europe SARL (collectively “Shiva Technologies”). EAG says it has also signed a Letter of Intent to acquire Shiva Technologies' affiliated lab in Bangalore, India.
“With these transactions, we continue the strategic expansion plan we established early in 2006, making EAG the most comprehensive and accessible independent surface analysis and materials characterization services provider in the world”, said EAG’s CEO Tom Pfeil. “We now offer over twenty-five major surface analysis techniques, and have analytical service labs in the key global areas, allowing us to efficiently offer the complete suite of EAG analytical solutions through each location.”
Founded in 1988, Cascade Scientific Ltd of London, UK, and Cascade Scientific GmbH of Frankfurt, Germany, specialize in the analysis of silicon-based and optoelectronic devices at all stages of fabrication. Capabilities include: SIMS, TOF-SIMS, TXRF, XPS, AES, AFM-STM and SRP.
Shiva Technologies, with offices in Syracuse, New York, USA, and Tournefeuille, France, was founded in 1990, and according to EAG is the largest analytical services provider of Glow Discharge Mass Spectrometry (GDMS) for high purity material research and production. GDMS is used for trace and ultra-trace elemental analysis on a range of inorganic solid materials, such as semiconductors. Shiva Technologies also offers Laser Ablation ICP-MS, ICP-OES and IGA services.
Located in Tokyo, Japan, Nano Science is a technical sales and customer service partner for EAG and Shiva Technologies.
EAG’s latest acquisitions follow several in 2006, and expand the company’s analytical laboratory operations from six to fifteen locations across seven countries.
In May the company acquired the operating assets and Detector software of Thin Film Analysis Inc, an analytical lab specializing in material characterization using ion beam accelerator techniques of Rutherford Backscattering analysis (RBS), Hydrogen Forward Scattering analysis (HFS or FRES), and Ion Channeling analysis. This was followed in August by the acquisition of Applied Microanalysis Labs Inc, an analytical lab specializing in static and dynamic SIMS (Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry) techniques. November saw EAG complete the acquisition of AMIA Labs, a provider of x-ray based analytical services, such as x-ray diffraction, x-ray fluorescence, and x-ray reflectometry, and in December the company acquired Advanced Materials Engineering Research and the semiconductor and microelectronics services operations of Materials Analytical Services (MAS).
