II-VI Inc showcasing new products at OFC
In booth #2101 at the Optical Fiber Communication conference & exhibition (OFC 2017) in Los Angeles (21-23 March), engineered materials and optoelectronic component maker II-VI Inc of Saxonburg, PA, USA (which provides solutions for next-generation optical networks) is showcasing new products, include the following:
- A 3-pin 980nm micro-pump laser that measures only 141mm3 in volume to enable optical amplification within emerging small pluggable transceiver packages.
- A miniature MEMS-tunable optical filter (mini-MTOF) with variable optical attenuator (VOA) that filters out optical noise to improve the signal fidelity in high-bit-rate transmission. Its low 4.8mm profile fits in pluggable module form factors and the VOA function removes the need for a separate device.
- A pluggable optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) module designed for embedded network monitoring applications in carrier and data-center networks to monitor fiber plant quality.
- A 25Gb/s detector chip array enabling 100Gb/s short-reach transmission in active optical cables (AOCs) and transceivers. The high-speed detectors feature large 40µm-diameter apertures that facilitate arrayed-receiver assembly manufacturing.
- A Z-block mux/demux micro-optics assembly in an extremely small 1.5mm x 1.0mm x 1.35mm size that fits in a standard CFP4 or QSFP package for 100Gb/s data-center transceivers.
II-VI says that it is increasingly leveraging its semiconductor and micro-optics technology platforms to create miniaturized solutions that can enable novel monitoring solutions for transport networks, compact amplifier solutions for high bit-rate DWDM transceivers, as well as key devices and sub-assemblies for data-center transceivers.
