Source Photonics demos low-power-consumption 2nd-gen 100GBASE-LR4 CFP multi-rate transceiver
Optical communication product maker Source Photonics Inc of Chatsworth, CA, USA has announced the live demonstration of the CPL-A4-MR-LR-CLFB low-power-consumption 100GBASE-LR4 CFP transceiver module at the Optical Fiber Communication conference & exposition/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (OFC/NFOEC 2013) in Anaheim (19-21 March).
The 100G transceiver is designed to meet the growing market for high-data-rate applications in data-center and telecom systems, and features the following technical characteristics:
- multi-rate support for 100GbE and OTU4 (802.3ba and ITU G.959.1) up to 111.8Gb/s;
- low maximum power consumption of 14W (multi-rate) and 12W (Ethernet only), respectively;
- fully MSA compliant with high-speed CAUI electrical interface;
- a CFP package with straight or angled duplex-LC connector as an option; and
- MDIO interface with digital diagnostic monitoring.
The second-generation 100G LR4 CFP module is the latest addition to Source Photonics’ high-data-rate transceiver portfolio and will enter production in first-half 2013. The low power consumption of under 14W (12W for Ethernet-only applications) makes it especially attractive for high-density applications were power dissipation is critical, says the firm.
In addition to the 100G modules, the firm’s high-data-rate portfolio covers 40G modules in CFP and QSFP+ form factors, meeting the IEEE standards for SR4, LR4 and FR (40G serial) as well as the proposed ER4 standard for applications that span 40km.
