M/A-COM appoints director of global distribution and deputy director of distribution

M/A-COM Technology Solutions Inc of Lowell, MA, USA (which manufactures semiconductors, components, and subassemblies for RF, microwave and millimeter-wave applications) says that Jack Kennedy is its new director of global distribution, reporting to chief strategy officer Bob Donahue and overseeing the strategic development of its global distribution channels.

“As market opportunities expand, enhancing the capabilities and efficiencies of our global distribution channels is fundamental to supporting our broad global customer base,” says Donahue.

Kennedy has a long and productive history with M/A-COM Tech in roles such as strategic account lead and global account director, as well as roles in sales management and field sales engineering.

Kennedy has a B.S. from Boston University and is currently completing his M.S. at Northeastern University.

M/A-COM Tech has also promoted James (Jim) Dempsey to the newly created position of deputy director of distribution, assisting Kennedy in distribution channel management and providing key support in the assurance of the continuity of service between distributors, manufacturer representatives, direct sales, factory support.

With more than 25 years of experience in the RF microwave industry, Dempsey has worked in various roles for Skyworks, Alpha Industries, and Herley Micro-Dynamics. His diverse knowledge comes from working in areas such as aviation radar, military products, wireless data, and infrastructure, says M/A-COM Tech.

Dempsey obtained his associates degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Wentworth Institute of Technology. He also has a certificate from the Greater Boston Executive Business Management Program at MIT Sloan School of Management.

*At next week’s 2010 Defense Manufacturing Conference (DMC) exhibition in Las Vegas (29 November — 1 December), M/A-COM Tech will showcase how it leverages commercial manufacturing practices for defense applications that use semiconductors, modules and RF assemblies. The firm says that this dual-use manufacturing approach allows it to lower costs, while maintaining critical performance and quality for stringent defense requirements.

Product solutions on display include:

• next-generation multi-function phased array radar (MPAR) for the air traffic and weather surveillance systems of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA);
  
• a high-performance, dual-polarization, S-band radar prototype LRU (line-replaceable unit), which uses high-volume, commercial semiconductor processes, commercial plastic packaging technologies, and printed circuit board RF integration; and
  
• a variety of high-power transistors and other semiconductor solutions that have been the mainstay of defense communications.
